6 × 8 in.
Bittersweet is a Risograph-printed photo book containing a visual essay of thoughtfully sequenced photography works by Huang. Through experimenting with Riso, Huang used different Riso inks to produce stunning and unique photographs. Each image has gone through careful color correcting in order to form a cohesive sequence. It ends with an autoethnographic piece, Seeking My Own Language, in which he reflects on his journey of questioning and constructing his identity through his personal and diasporic living experience as a member of the Chinese diaspora.
As part of Huang’s Risograph printmaking practice, Bittersweet second edition used 11 Riso colour and various printing textures.
Second edition is printed at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. It’s published by Unpress, a self-publishing artist group.
