Refuse – 2022

Refuse is a photo book that contains my own works. Through my observation of the daily objects that are being used in different ways of their intended use, these images are decontextualized and paralleled with the refusal of my "Chinese" identity. Based on the philosophical thinking of the USE in Sara Ahmad's book, What's the Use, refuse is regarded as a form of use (queer use). By refusing the given identity of "a Chinese", I'm building (using) my own identity as a diasporic Cantonese-Chinese.
